These are, perhaps, my most wayward poems.
These are the wild ones, the ones written
with the most abandon. They reflect a time
of self-centeredness, anger, and confusion.
I was still a teenager when these were written,
so technical finesse is altogether scarce.

These poems are dear to me, however, because
they were battles. Inner demons were
confronted for the first time and a darker
side of myself demanded to be embraced,
and was eventually met with my pen. They also
resounded my faith in hope.

Looking back now, there's a common energy
in all the poems in this collection. There
was little subtlety and the energy is
boundless, strong, and without direction-
much like the girl who wrote them. Common
themes centered around redemption, escape,
feeling as if the entire world is against you,
and also, feeling as if you're vastly
misunderstood. Of course, upon looking back,
I often cringe at how incredibly self-centered
my general attitude was.

It's not to say I'm without fault now, or
that I reject these poems. On the contrary,
reading these poems are somewhat of a delight
because each one was written with fervor and
deliciously passionate energy. Feelings vacillated
in extremes during this period. On one hand,
there are the hopeful ones, such as "kindness"
and "Sister to the Wild." On the other hand, there
are those full of despair and rage, such as
"Angel's Myth" and "Mad Girl's Heartache." It was
definitely all or nothing with these poems.

This collection is named the "2am Series"
because it fits the theme of the poem "2am."
It's a collection centered around feeling
otherwordly, only to wake up and realize we
aren't really that much of a special case in
humanity's history. At this stage, though, the
dreamer still has her head up in the clouds.
